Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar reportedly passed away in Goa after being found unresponsive at his residence in Dona Paula. Goa Police registered an unnatural death case and initiated an inquest to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to police records cited by The Indian Express, Panaji Police Station received information from Manipal Hospital at 8:07 am on Thursday, stating that the 76-year-old actor had been brought dead to the emergency department.
Police registered the case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Officials clarified that the procedure was mandatory because Patekar had been declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital stated that Patekar reportedly messaged a friend around 2:30 am, complaining of discomfort. The friend reached his residence later and found him sweating and struggling to breathe.
Emergency medical personnel reportedly administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before transporting him to hospital. Despite resuscitation efforts, doctors declared him dead at approximately 5:20 am.
While preliminary observations suggested cardiac arrest, authorities said the definitive cause would depend on post-mortem findings. Police emphasised that registering an unnatural death case is a procedural requirement and does not automatically indicate suspicious circumstances or foul play.
