India's banking sector is advancing towards next-generation cybersecurity as the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Bank of India establish a strategic partnership to explore quantum technologies, artificial intelligence and secure financial infrastructure.
The memorandum of understanding, signed on October 22 and announced on October 23, 2026, aims to accelerate research, technology development and innovation across emerging digital banking applications.
A major priority is creating a Quantum Ecosystem for Financial Innovation, combining quantum computing, high-performance computing, blockchain and advanced cybersecurity capabilities to strengthen banking resilience against evolving technological threats.
The collaboration will investigate quantum-safe cryptography, AI-powered fraud detection, credit-risk assessment, secure data exchange, digital identity verification and intelligent document processing. Responsible AI governance will also remain central to the research agenda.
The strategic significance lies in preparing banks for future cryptographic disruption. Advances in quantum computing could eventually threaten conventional public-key encryption, making post-quantum cryptography increasingly important for protecting financial transactions, customer identities and sensitive banking records.
Both organisations will undertake joint research, proof-of-concept demonstrations, pilot projects and technical training. Importantly, the agreement represents a technology-development initiative rather than confirmation that quantum-secured banking infrastructure has already entered production.
For India's BFSI ecosystem, the partnership signals a transition from reactive cybersecurity towards proactive technological preparedness. Combining AI-driven fraud analytics with quantum-resistant security could strengthen digital trust, operational resilience and financial sovereignty. However, successful implementation will depend on rigorous testing, regulatory alignment, interoperability and measurable security outcomes before large-scale deployment across banking networks nationwide.
