Arista Networks has released emergency security patches for a critical zero-day vulnerability affecting its VeloCloud Orchestrator (VCO) platform. Tracked as CVE-2026-114625, the flaw carries a CVSS severity score of 9.9 and has reportedly been exploited in active cyberattacks, raising serious concerns about enterprise network security.
The vulnerability originates from an SQL injection weakness that allows authenticated users, including those with read-only privileges, to escalate access to superuser-level permissions. Attackers could potentially manipulate network configurations, access sensitive operational information and compromise centralized SD-WAN management systems.
The incident is particularly alarming because VeloCloud Orchestrator manages connectivity across enterprise branches, data centers and distributed infrastructure. Compromising this management layer could expose multiple business locations to operational disruption, unauthorized configuration changes and broader cybersecurity risks.
This marks the third actively exploited VeloCloud vulnerability disclosed since July 2026, highlighting persistent security challenges in centralized network-management platforms. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency subsequently added the latest vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, emphasizing the urgency of remediation.
Arista has released fixes for affected VCO versions, urging enterprises to update their deployments immediately. Security teams must also restrict administrative access, investigate suspicious activity, review privileged accounts and examine system logs for indicators of compromise. Patching alone cannot guarantee that previously compromised environments are secure.
The larger concern extends beyond conventional network vulnerabilities. As enterprises embrace hybrid cloud, SD-WAN and AI-driven automation, centralized management platforms are becoming attractive targets. Traditional authentication cannot independently prevent privilege escalation, making continuous authorization, behavioural monitoring and zero-trust security increasingly important.
FaceOff Technologies addresses complementary security challenges through its Adaptive Cognito Engine (ACE®), focusing on continuous identity verification, behavioural intelligence and risk-based authentication. While such capabilities cannot replace vulnerability patches, they can strengthen digital trust. The emerging cybersecurity imperative is clear: authenticate identities, continuously verify activities and never assume that authenticated access automatically guarantees trust.
