Former Dyson India Managing Director Ankit Jain has launched Foundry, a Gurugram-based consumer technology startup, securing ₹12 crore in pre-seed funding to develop premium home appliances. The venture aims to challenge conventional appliance design through proprietary technology, engineering innovation and differentiated consumer experiences.
The funding round was co-led by BEENEXT and Kettleborough VC, with participation from Rishubh Satiya of Plix, Anindita Sampath of Yoga Bar and Anita Pramoda of Owned Outcomes. The investment will primarily support research, product engineering and technology development ahead of commercialisation.
Foundry plans to introduce its first kitchen appliances during the second half of 2027, subsequently expanding into other household categories. Its strategy emphasises patent-pending technologies, advanced materials and integrated product design rather than incremental improvements to existing appliances.
India's Premium Appliance Opportunity
Jain brings over two decades of consumer business experience, including leadership assignments at Dyson across India, Hong Kong and the Middle East. His experience building premium brands could help Foundry understand evolving consumer expectations, distribution strategies and product positioning.
The bigger opportunity lies in India's transition from appliance assembly to intellectual-property-driven manufacturing. Rising disposable incomes, premiumisation and demand for intelligent household products create favourable conditions. However, Foundry must overcome substantial challenges involving manufacturing scalability, product reliability, pricing, after-sales service and competition from established brands. Its success will depend on translating engineering differentiation into measurable consumer value while building a sustainable Indian technology brand.
